Today’s news: Laws for thee and me

- As someone who often complains about spending on non-essentials, it seems odd to be defending this because it is non-essential. But as someone who is familiar with communications and marketing, I also recognize the value of a brand. So I’m not bent out of shape over the city spending money for a new logo. And I’ve usually been happy with the work done by Converse Marketing.
- So, the Tazewell County Sheriff’s Department — as well as many others — have been violating the law. The reason? They were completely unaware this particular law existed. Huh. Try that next time some county mountie gives you a ticket for having a broken bulb above your license plate.
- Peoria-based Marine reservists are coming home. At least about 40 of them will be, in out two weeks. Welcome home. Will we be having a parade, maybe?
- In exchange for having digital cameras on virtually every school bus, District 150 is replacing three fewer buses? As we that concerned about student on student violence that we’re running three buses longer than we would otherwise? Even if it is a good trade, it works only if the district is willing to actually discipline the students who get caught doing things that merit punishment.
- Phil Luciano leaves this question unanswered: Does the city of Peoria agree with the prosecutor in Bureau County and the current law banning smoking in public places is unenforceable?
