Blogs: Issuing a Blogger Bash R.F.P.

April 8, 2008
By Billy Dennis

As is tradition in the Peoria Blogosphere, a Blogger Bash is held every time a month has a 5th Tuesday. That means we are due for a bash on April 29th. There has been some discussion over at Cory’s site, but no definitive conclusion.

So, I’m opening the floor here for request for proposals. I’m in favor of any Peoria site — or one on the other side of the river — that’s locally owned (and NOT a franchise joint … grrr) that has food, liquid refreshment, and is set up to allow folks to walk about and mingle. In other words, a pub or tavern. We’ve had some successful bashes at joints like Whitey’s on Sheridan and the Firehouse on Pioneer Parkway. How about the Basket Case on West Main? Just an idea.

As aways, these bashes are held in public places. anyone can attend, of course, but all Peoria-area bloggers are invited, as are regular commenters. It’s always great when public officials can attend, for a little off-the-record conversation.

Some bloggers have legitimate reason to remain anon. Why would they go to a blogger bash?

Really? Did Vonster just lob that batting practice fastball right over the plate for everyone to hit out of the ballpark?

    Really?

    Wow.

How about the Silver Bullet in East Peoria?

  4. Billy Dennis on April 8, 2008 at 10:02 pm

Kate: Where is this place located?

The Bullet is located in the shopping center that previously held Shopko in East Peoria. As you look at the strip mall, it’s on the far left. It’s literally a very short ride over the bridge from downtown.

We go there after our Friday night softball games in the spring. So we often have a bit of a crowd and we always manage to fit us all in. They do have a room just off the main area that can be reserved for private parties. The service is always great and their bar food is pretty yummy too!

Leave to the lefty to be a dick.

I’ve never been to the Basket Case. I’d be interested in checking that place out. How about the other bar across the street (name escapes me- the old Gaslight) or Gormans?

Those all sound good. I’ll add another suggestion, though — how about Kellehers?

  9. sideburns13 on April 9, 2008 at 9:50 am

I’m thinking either Gormans or The Dormitory and, seeing as this will be my first Blogger Bash, I think the Dormitory’s shuffleboard is callin my name!

I would definitely go for the Bullet or Gorman’s.

I don’t think PI should get a vote, seeing as he never shows up anyway.

I’m leaning toward doing our first BB on the other side of the river.

An stop picking on PI. He’s been to a few of them.

Ohhhh yeah, after some of the shit I’ve said, I’m sure all of you are just DYING to meet me. Maybe some other time, folks. Take fun pictures.

Hey newbie- I believe I’ve only missed one in the past few years. You’re just mad because the one I missed was at Buffalo Wild Wings.

  14. jenjw4 on April 9, 2008 at 2:01 pm

hmmm… PI, didn’t you miss the one at Donnelly’s too? Or were you just too cool to hang out with the chicks? (and MM)

Joking aside, I will go wherever, even if it means crossing the river.

  15. PeoriaIllinoisan on April 9, 2008 at 3:42 pm

Crap, Jen. You’re right. Maybe Cory’s on to something after all.

I too will cross the river if I must.

  16. mortonmalaise on April 9, 2008 at 4:08 pm

PI, you also missed the midterm Bash at Panache.

Seriously, the Silver Bullet is just a skip and a jump across the river for you Peoria County folks. It’s between Cedar St. and Bob Michel bridges. It’s never too loud, the beer is cold and inexpensive, and their Golden Tee machine is one of the best maintained in the area.
