Politics: Lyons can’t explain away his absence from task force

May 26, 2008 in Statehouse & Capitol

Darin LaHood has promised to participate in the City of Peoria’s Crime Task Force is he is elected state’s attorney in Peoria County. The current holder of that office, Kevin Lyons, has refused. LaHood reiterated that promise at a recent event, and the Journal Star dutifully contacted Lyons for his reply:

“This task force thing has clearly touched a nerve or two and maybe hurt a few feelings,” Lyons said in an e-mail response. “That was not my purpose. But I cannot devote any more time to explaining my absence from something that shows not a single accomplishment.”

This is classic Lyons, on several fronts:

  • It displays his massive ego, in that he’s resentful at being asked to explain himself to Journal Star readers.
  • It demonstrates that Lyons cannot work and play well with others.
  • He ignores the statistical improvement in city crime stats since the meetings started.
  • His lack of participation makes it impossible for him to contribute, and then he complains it didn’t work to his satisfaction.

My apologies for taking so long to post about something that happened last week. I guess I’m too busy worrying about tightening the nuts and bolts.
