Media: Stick to dancing, blondie

June 25, 2008 in On the Media, The Sports Page

juliannehough.jpgSo, I’m sitting at Whitey’s last night with a stinking Cardinals fan and The World’s Most Obnoxious Yankee’s Fan. We’re watching the Cub’s valiant come-back effort against the Orioles, and this skinny blond chick comes on and tries to sing the “Take Me Out to the Ballgame.”

We were less than impressed. Granted, she was hard to hear over the nonsensical blather spewing out of the Yankee fan’s mouth. But it was pretty evident that she had no business trying to sing. Naturally, she was there promoting her CD.

And ChiTrib columnist/blogger Eric Zorn  agrees with my conclusion:

Many “guest conductors” have merrily and memorably butchered “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” during the 7th-inning stretch at Wrigley Field. But I’ve never heard a professional recording artist sing it as badly as Julianne Hough did Tuesday night.

So, THAT was her name. Apparently, she’s a dancer on one of those insipid TV shows where celebrities pretend that have talent. Anyway, Zorn posts a music clip for the masochists among my readers.

I am unsurprised that this week-voiced wonder has a recording contract. Thanks to video music, a singer’s looks are much more important these days than any real singing talent, especially for women. Janis Jopin wouldn’t be able to get past the first round on American Idol. A weak voice can always be altered electronically.

Some people don’t need such help:

While Billy was watching the Cubs’ “valiant come-back effort” which ended in a loss, we also saw the Cardinals win their game 8-4 over the Tigers.

The only real highlight of the Cubs game was watching former Cardinal Jim Edmonds hit a home run.

    I like Julianne Hough

she sings very well. hell you could get robert plant or neal diamond in there and they wouldn’t be singing that song in full voice either. i understand what she was doing by singing in that manner…..and she came across talking to bob and len with sincerity and was articulate as well. i’m not a country music fan but I liked her too. besides look at that butt as she was giving derosa a dance lesson.

and btw, janis has sung horribly too.

Way to go, Billy. A classmate of yours, who I just happen to share a bed with, is no longer a fan of Billy Dennis. You mess with “Dancin’ With The Stars” and it’s cast, and you’ve got a fight on your hands where she is concerned. Nice move.

BTW, Julianne Hough is one talented young lady. Period.

What about Pete from Fall Out Boy the other night? He was 2 full measures ahead of the organ for most of the song.

The reason most people, even professionals, sound bad singing that song is because they can’t hear themselves. There’s no monitor.

  7. Billy Dennis Says:

If Diane didn’t see or hear her performance, she has no right to judge my comment! Thpt!
