Politics: Yet another police organization endorses LaHood

July 22, 2008 in Statehouse & Capitol

From a press release:

Bartonville Police Department Endorses Darin LaHood For Peoria County State’s Attorney

Historical endorsement moves LaHood Closer to Sweeping All Police Endorsements in Peoria County

Peoria, IL –In its first endorsement ever for the position of Peoria County State’s Attorney, members of the Bartonville Police Benevolent Union #120 endorsed challenger Darin LaHood over the incumbent Kevin Lyons in the upcoming November election.

“Darin LaHood is a career prosecutor and also a thoughtful, responsive and impressive candidate. We believe those qualities will translate very well to the Peoria County State’s Attorneys office,” said Nathan Barker, a Bartonville Police Officer and a member of the Benevolent Union. “Darin has exceptional experience fighting crime and a proven ability to work with others to keep our streets safe”. “LaHood has made it a priority to develop relationships with officers in Bartonville and now we want to help him win in November.”

The Bartonville Police Benevolent Union is the latest on a growing list of law enforcement groups publicly supporting LaHood’s candidacy. Just last week, Chillicothe’s Police Department issued their endorsement; prior to that, both the Peoria Police Department and the Peoria County Sheriff’s Department declared their full support for the challenger LaHood over 20-year incumbent State’s Attorney Kevin Lyons.

“Something is clearly wrong in the Peoria County State’s Attorneys office when the police officers all around the County continue to line up for change,” LaHood said. “I welcome their support and look forward to working closely with them to fight crime when I’m State’s Attorney.”

Darin LaHood, 40, was born and raised in Peoria. He is a former Chief Terrorism and Federal Prosecutor who served four years with the U.S. Department of Justice in Las Vegas, Nevada. LaHood was also an Assistant State’s Attorney in both Tazewell and Cook counties. LaHood and his wife, Kristen, returned home to Peoria in 2005 to raise their three children: McKay, Luke, and Teddy. LaHood currently practices with the Peoria law firm of Miller, Hall, & Triggs. Darin and Kristen are active in numerous Peoria charitable and civic organizations and are members of St. Vincent de Paul Church.
