Schock Watch: BFF
Keeping tabs on Peoria’s Congressman.
From Truth V. The Machine:
It’s tempting to view Meghan McCain as little more than a liberal Republican roman candle – a short-lived flare that will burn out within the next election cycle. But with few other voices vying as representative of the GOP’s next generation, the media will gladly seek out more moderate voices (like Rep. Aaron Schock, who McCain apparently wants to be BFF with) to use as a cudgel against traditional Republicans. It’s the Gen X version of the role Meghan’s father played with aplomb for the last eight years.
Via MSNBC:
Under the bill offered by Rep. Aaron Schock, R-Ill., and Rep. Walt Minnick, D-Idaho, employers and employees of businesses with 50 or fewer workers would pay no Social Security and Medicare taxes for six months. Currently, both employers and employees are required to pay the 6.2 percent Social Security tax and the 1.45 percent Medicare tax throughout the year.
From the Crystal Lake Town Crier:
A special guest, Congressman Aaron Schock, IL-18th, will discuss “Reclaiming The American Dream.†Congressman Schock, the youngest member of Congress sits on the Transportation, Small Business & Oversight and Government Reform Committees.

Billy, your Schock coverage is putting me to shame!! Lol!
“employers and employees of businesses with 50 or fewer workers would pay no Social Security and Medicare taxes for six months.”
Yep, that will help the deficit.
It’s kind of like running your own budget… if you get used to the extra money, then going back is going to be more difficult. This really isn’t that helpful to the small businesses. It will be more of a schock when the taxes are reimposed. So whatever gains you had would be likely be wiped out.
It also sets the stage for an argument in 6 months over ‘raising’ Social Security & Medicare taxes. A manufactured issue.
The thing is.. the people who work in small businesses (and who retire from them) are the one’s who will benefit most down the road from these programs. Few small businesses offer any retirement plans or insurance. Cutting them off funding seems counterproductive.
This bill sounds flawed.
What happens if you have a company with less than 50 employees who are making money hand over fist? Their SS and Medicare taxes suspended? Meanwhile another small business with 200 employees that is struggling to survive cannot have the same advantage and help?
I tend to agree somewhat with Mahkno, but to be fair, allow all small business the same tax break. Perhaps allow up to 50 employees with salaries up to a certain amount working for companies with a certain income bracket to have these taxes suspended.
The big news, besides the “teabagging” parties going on tomorrow, is that the Schock re-election campaign is required to file their quarterly fund raising reports with the FEC. It will be interesting to follow the money.
BTW his payroll tax holiday is incredibly fiscally irresponsible and is just another G.O.P. ploy to undermine a successful governmental program.
Aaron, Aaron, Aaron! Is the new Marcia, Marcia, Marcia!

The Virginia G.O.P. has a new outreach. There using Youtube. The video is entitled “The Kiss” It is definitely NSFW. It appeares that the G.O.P. is trying to spread their message in new and interesting ways. It has since been taken down but I’m sure you can find it if you try. It is definitely more INTERESTING than Marcia, Marcia, Marcia. The episode with the Tiki necklaces, that’s a different story.
Brian G: More INTERESTING than Marcia, Marcia, Marcia? Hardly! Although I have to admit I don’t remember the Tiki necklace episode, but I really doubt it can beat the scene I posted. Hopefully we both can agree that the one whee Davy Jones guest-starred sucked monkey lungs.
PEORIA — Significant strides toward free trade agreements with Colombia and Panama were realized during a trip there by several members of Congress last week, U.S. Rep. Aaron Schock said Monday. [...] He said such agreements will benefit agriculture and manufacturing in his 18th Congressional District.
Explain, Aaron Schock, explain.
