Growing gardens in the West Bluff

From a press release:

Campaign for a Walkable West Bluff is pleased to announce a partnership with the Western Avenue Greenway to develop a Community Garden for 2009

The garden will be located in the Greenway, along Western Avenue in Peoria. The plan is to grow a harvest of organic vegetables and donate the entire harvest to local food banks. To make this project a success, WE NEED YOUR HELP. This is a great opportunity to get involved to make the West Bluff a better place and be part of a community effort to help others.

Over the course of the season, we will need many volunteers to make the garden a success and we hope that you will be able to join us, if not regularly, at least at some point during the season. In general, we will be working on Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings. If you are interested in volunteering or would like more information, please contact Greg Tomlins at gregory.tomlins@gmail.com or at 453-9984.

We will be spreading compost and possibly planting (weather permitting) on Wednesday, May 27, starting at 5pm. We are grateful to Better Earth for their kind donation of compost.

For directions to the garden, please call or email Greg Tomlins. If you plan to garden, please bring a shovel & gloves. If you can bring a wheelbarrow, please do. The garden is in a sunny spot, so if the weather is warm, please bring water to stay cool.

If you are interested in being on the email distribution list for garden-related activities and updates throughout the season, please email Greg with your name, email address and phone number. He has established a distribution list to include interested volunteers on schedules, updates, watering, weeding, harvesting, general needs, etc.

PLEASE JOIN US in this community-building effort. If you have ideas or suggestions about the project or would like to make a contribution, please let us know.
