Schock was opposed to federal spending before he was in favor of it
Aaron Schock is getting some criticism from the Democrats for passing our money from a program he voted against:
In a stunning act of hypocrisy, Congressman Aaron Schock held a press conference with members of the East Peoria Police Department to “award” a $410,000 federal COPS Technology Grant that he voted against on the House floor. During the event, Congressman Schock claimed “here in East Peoria, the police department, they make great investments in their people, and it only makes sense to continue to invest in the technology and tools they have in order to keep the citizens of East Peoria safe and police officers safe in the line of duty.”
“Opposing much needed law enforcement funding is bad enough, but it is simply outrageous for Congressman Schock to then hypocritically take credit for securing the very money he voted against,” said Gabby Adler, the Midwestern Regional Press Secretary for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. “Aaron Schock not only misled the people of East Peoria, he lied to the faces of the men and women of the East Peoria Police Department who put their lives on the line every day to serve and protect the community.”
The expenditure for East Peoria was inserted into the bill by Schock’s predecessor, Ray LaHood.

Thanks for the info, Billy. Too bad the Journal Star didn’t add an extra short paragraph stating his opposition to the bill. Of course, the readers of this fine blog got to see Congressman Schock’s stupified expression when Stephen Colbert asked if he’d be refusing stimulus money for his district.
For those traveling to Chicago, Congressman Schock will be at the Cubby Bear Tavern in Wrigleyville this Monday from 6PM-10PM. Disgraced G.O.P. Senate candidate Jack Ryan will be there also. Sounds like a family friendly event.
Did Schock kick sand in your face when you were kids Brian G? I have never seen anyone so obsessed with a political figure.
It isn’t from the Journal Star, read the actual article next time. And quite frankly, I agree with what has transpired. I am/was opposed to the stimulus bill also but it passed regardless should Schock just let that money go to every district but the 18th?
As for the event you are referring to, how do you know Jack Ryan’s personal schedule?
Here’s the press release on the Cubby Bear even. Ryan is listed as attending:

11 Bravo,
here is the link detailing the event.
If the government is going to spend MY money I would like for it to come back to MY district. I don’t see any problem with it.
“If the government is going to spend MY money I would like for it to come back to MY district. I don’t see any problem with it.”
And if it was a Democrat who voted against a Republican bill and then came back and hypocratically took credit for it, you’d be screaming bloody murder about those “damn liberals’.
Republicans. Can’t live with them, can’t kill them.
LMAO, Yes Schock voted against it and yes he took credit for it. No matter how you feel about the stimulus money, if you are a Congressman and against it, then you shouldn’t show up and take credit for it when you hand it out. Hypocrite.
Jack Ryan disgraced? That has got to be the most asinine statement of this and the last century.
Please cite the illegal act he commited and the court record where he was found guilty of same.
He was bushwacked plain and simple, so the Chicago media would not look bad after destroying Blair Hull a few weeks earlier. Equal opportunity destroyers.
Voting against a bill that you know is going to pass over your party’s stand is a regular practice in the US Congress, does not make it right but it is the system.
Those of you who were against the tax rebates and tax reductions, Please send them back to the government so we can reduce the current debt load that is growing daily. You can stand on principal and feel like you have done your good deed for the day.
Billy you failed to mentiion the bill was an Omnibus spending measure. This is where everthing including the kitchen sink is thrown in and given an up or down vote. If you have a pet project in the bill but still oppose the larger package you can hold your nose, vote and get your project through or you can stand on principal and state your objections to the pork and unecessary spending that is contained in the legislation and vote against it.
Either way the opposing party such as the one cited ( a clearly bisased source) the DCCC will rake you over the coals for not being concerned for your district and the people who are a recipient of the bills provisions.
Yeah, I wonder why Billy didn’t post this part of the article when he posted the rest of it:
So now if you vote against an omnibus bill, then that means you’re against everything in it? Oh brother.
Just out of curiosity, what does it mean if you vote “present”?
So then all of you attacking Shock agree that Democrats don’t care about our troops because they have voted against defense spending authorization bills right? You can’t have it both ways. I am not saying I believe that but all of you must because that is essentially the argument you’re making.
What I hear you all saying is central Illinois should not receive a single dime of spending money from that bill, is that correct?
What I am saying is that Schock shouldn’t be grandstanding over benefits from a bill that he voted against.
I’m with Ollie…if he brings back “the bacon”, that’s his job. But don’t take credit where credit is NOT due. Like I posted earlier, you’d all be on the other side of this if Schock had a “D” next to his name.
It is interesting you automatically assume what you do about me BJ as that was my first post ever on this site and I didn’t state my political preference.
As long as the money goes for something important to our district like crime prevention, building up the infrastructure or to the schools ect., I don’t care if the person has an “R” or a “D” or any other letter of the alphabet behind their name.
If the money was going to help with tatoo removal like in CA or to study why pigs smell, which are two of the projects in the either the stimulus or the omnibus can’t remember, then I would be upset. Again, It wouldn’t matter what the letter behind the congresspersons name is.
JWIEB79: basic scientific research (e. g., why pigs smell) should be one of the things that government funds. After all, research on the very basic levels does NOT (in general) show short term results; hence private industry will usually not finance it. But it does show long term results; for example research of fruit flies has lead to increases in our knowledge of genetics (which in turn lead to medical advances much later).
Just because something seems like BS to you doesn’t mean that it isn’t worthwhile.
Grandstanding is ok as long as the pork comes rolling in to the district.
Please Congressperson ( fill in the blank) bring home as much pork as you possibly can – don’t worry about the cost or the appropriatness of any other pork project in somebody else’s district, just line our collective pockets and you can be assured or our support next election.
When a bill comes before the US Congres that sends truckloads of money to the district but stuck in the deep dark pages of the same bill (that nobody reads) except the inserter of the language, there is a provision that funds an organization that is antithetical to the very way of our community ( such as taxing the internet) do you as a member of congress vote for the bill or oppose it on some principal that is held by the very same voting public that sent you to The U.S.Congress.
