Some Blog Peoria FYI (UPDATE)

UPDATE: The site migration seems to have gone well without any major glitches.

As of this writing, there is a site migration in progress at the Blog Peoria Project.

What that means is this: The files and database that generates the 50 plus blogs that comprise Blog Peoria are being moved from one server to another.

I am doing this for basically one reason: I need room to grow the site. Right now, I cannot in gtood conscience encourage anyone to join, knowing that it strains the current host’s server.

So, I found a very highly respected company that specializes in WordPress and WordPress Mu installations.

I’ll point the BlogPeoria.com domain to the new server as soon as the migration happens.

I’ve asked member bloggers to refrain from posting anything new until I give the heads up.

I’m hoping I can do that before I leave for work Monday morning. If not, it will be in the early evening Monday.

Thanks for your patience.:

you know, if you would stop tinkering with the site and making it go down all the time, maybe you’d get more business…you uptime percentage is rather low…we’re down for a migration, we’re down for an upgrade, I forgot to pay the bill, donate now, blah blah blah.

And why not utilize both margins of the page to sell ads? Or even a headline banner? That would probably help bring in that additional revenue to get you to a point where you can blog full time.

Chief and 11bravo: This particular site migration is designed to alleviate site issues on the Blog Peoria Project that were causing “go down all the time.” Granted. With this site migration, were no no serious downtime, as visitors saw either the old installation or the current one. Sometime soon, I’ll post the specs on this new WPMU dedicated hosting company.

As to the suggestions for using the left side of the Peoria Pundit blog — I’ve thought of it. There’s always roomfor ads, the problem is finding time to work a fulltime job, write for the blog, manage PP and the multiple blog Blog Peoria Project site, AND sell ads. I would to sell 10 times the ads I sell now (at existing rates) to be able to quit my job and blog full time. And you may have noticed a recession going on.

And if I did manage to hustle my ass off and sell all those ads, how much time would I have to blog?

I have many ideas though. Maybe I’ll discuss them at Blogger Bash.
