Fire exploring program for Boy Scouts offered

FIRE EXPLORING PROGRAM HOLDS YOUTH TRAINING CONFERENCE

image002PEORIA- On Saturday, October 24, 2009, from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm the W. D. Boyce Council Exploring program will hold its annual Fire Exploring Conference at the Peoria Fire Department Training Academy, 7130 N Galena Rd., Peoria, IL 61615. The conference will allow youth involved in the Fire Exploring program a chance to refine their skills in a variety of fire related trainings.

Seven fire departments from Central Illinois are participating in this event including: Peoria, Mendota, El Paso, Hudson, McNabb, Spring Bay and Northern Tazewell.  Over 50 young men and women will have the opportunity to test their skills at trainings including a live burn, auto extrication and a flashover simulation.

Fire Exploring is part of the B.S.A.’s Exploring program, which provides youth ages 14-21 with an opportunity to gain hands on experience in a career field as well as enhance their leadership skills.

ABOUT THE W. D. BOYCE COUNCIL

The W. D. Boyce Council is the Peoria Office of the Boy Scouts of America located on Madison Avenue near downtown. The office currently serves over 13,354 kids in 14 counties spread across Central Illinois. The W. D. Boyce Council is divided into four districts – Crossroads, Heartland, Lowenau, and Wotomalo, which all serve their own counties in Central Illinois. ScoutREACH is the council’s fifth district devoted to reaching youth of all circumstances from within the Council.
