Essential services come second, maybe third

Via CIProud, here is a list of jobs that the Peoria City Manager thinks are essential, but are going to be cut anyway:

6 Police officers (PPBA)
2 ECC Communicators (AFSCME)
Network Specialist (AFSCME)
Computer Operator (AFSCME)
Legal Administration Coordinator (AFSCME)
1 Animal Control Officer (AFSCME)
Police Records Manager (Exempt)
1 Animal Control Officer (AFSCME)
2 Part-Time Kennel Technicians (AFSCME)
1 ECC Supervisor (Exempt)
Public Safety Coordinator (Exempt)
1 Accountant (Exempt)
1 Code Enforcement Inspector (AFSCME)
2 Police Info Tech for 3rd Shift (AFSCME)

My two cents: Yet the Economic Development Department remains untouched. Call them when you have a pit bull running loose in your neighborhood, or better yet call any of the 10 members of the Peoria City Council who voted to cut essential services. But don’t worry. We’re still going to fund a museum for Caterpillar and a private hotel.

Billy, what do you mean that the Economic Developement remains untouched? They cut 39%of their budget. Why would you put out misinformation like that? Better yet, what is your fixation with EDC?

Craig Hulinger is retiring and that position is not going to be filled as of my info. Some savings will result from this.

Billy. Is there a reason no firefighters will be cut? We really have a crime and safety problem, not a fire problem? Was there somthing in this regard previously done that they have not been included this time?

the reason is simple, the mayor’s brother is a firefighter
