Schock Introduces Duty Suspension to Save Jobs in El Paso

Washington, DC – As unemployment numbers throughout the country continue to rise, Congressman Aaron Schock (R-IL) recently introduced legislation to save 123 jobs at the DuPont Plant in El Paso, Illinois.

Schock introduced H.R. 3915, a bill to extend the suspension on phenyl carbamate, a key ingredient in the production of herbicides.

“At a time where our unemployment rate is at 10.2 percent, it makes no sense for our own government to penalize domestic manufacturers who create jobs,” said Schock. “In order for the El Paso plant to compete on a level playing field with foreign counterparts, we must remove this unnecessary tariff.”

“We are grateful to Congressman Schock for introducing this legislation which supports our dedicated employees who work at the DuPont El Paso site,” said Steve J. Patron, Plant Manager at the El Paso DuPont Plant. “The importation of this chemical helps workers in El Paso and farmers throughout Illinois. Tariff reductions achieved through the duty suspension process represent key bottom-line solutions to help the manufacturing sector manage through uncertain economic times, and we are most appreciative of all the work on this issue by Congressman Schock.”
