Classic government response to a simple question

A church wants to expand. Their architect turned in a design. Bureaucrats balked because it doesn’t conform to the rules. It would cost more money to fix the plans and build the way the city staffers’ want. So why not bend the rules and let them a break?

The answer is classic government group think:

Ross Black, assistant director of Planning & Growth Management, said Friday that while he hasn’t seen the design proposal for the new addition, it could be changed to accommodate the windows.

“The reason we’re recommending the windows is because that is what the ordinance calls for,” Black said. “Not to make it sound more basic, but that’s what it is.”

Good heavens.
