Commenter Sara said this at my post about layoffs at the Journal Star, including Adriana Colindres, the GateHouse News Service’s top-notch statehouse reporter:
Check this out:
Help us cover the Legislature. 15-20 hours per week. $15-$20 per hour. Computer skills required. Knowledge of legislative process helpful.
Send resume to:
The State Journal Register
1 Copley Plaza
P.O. Box 219, “Box #5343”
Springfield, IL 62701Source: http://hotjobs.yahoo.com/job-JMK0GEJFSNS?source=SRP
Computer skills? Knowledge of legislative process HELPFUL? What about journalism skills? Experience? Ability to write?
Seriously, they let Adriana go, and they expect to replace her like this? It should be criminal.
Sick making.

I like: “knowledge of legislative process helpful”. Now I completely understand why some of their reporters write what they do.
Good thing it’s not an important topic like… oh, say state government. But at least we still get our entertainment section completely staffed! God forbid I miss any details of the latest Insane Clown Posse concert!
You have got to be kidding.
No section at the paper is fully staffed. Look at the bylines, it’s just a handful of people trying to make it look like they are operating as usual.
I’m a reporter at The State Journal-Register and consider Adriana a good friend. I was just assured by an SJ-R manager that this ad is not in any way connected with Adriana losing her job. The ad was posted by another organization in the Statehouse Press Room in Springfield to fill a vacancy in a non-writing position. The ad wasn’t posted by the Peoria Journal Star or the Springfield State Journal-Register or by GateHouse.
