Hirner calls on Schock to Apologize for Torture Endorsement
Calls torture endorsement by Schock reckless and out of touch with American values
SPRINGFIELD, IL – DK Hirner, Democrat for Congress, today called on, Republican Aaron Schock, to publicly apologize for comments he made endorsing torture on MSNBC’s Hardball with Chris Matthews.
“Aaron Schock’s latest comments in support of the use of torture are just another in a line of reckless and ill informed statements by Mr. Schock that undermine our credibility as a nation as we lead the world in the fight against terrorism,” said Hirner. “The challenges our country faces when it comes to terrorism are real and serious, but to imply that simply torturing people will make us safer is just flat out wrong.” Schock appearing on MSNBC’s Hardball with Chris Matthews said, “I would not limit our intelligence agencies’ ability to get information from people,” said Schock. “If they have a ticking time-bomb or some critical piece of information that can save American lives, I don’t believe that we should limit waterboarding or quite frankly any other alternative torture technique, if it means saving Americans’ lives.”
“The fact is endorsing the use of torture, like Mr. Schock did, provides fodder for terrorist who look to vilify us and at the same demeans the vital work our men and women in our armed forces and our intelligence community are doing on a daily basis to help keep us safe.” said Hirner. “Instead of engaging in “what if” scenarios designed to justify his support of torture, Mr. Schock should be looking to find real ways to help support these brave men and women on the front lines of our anti-terrorism efforts.”
This is not Mr. Schock’s first reckless statement regarding our country’s foreign policy. In December of 2007, Schock stated that he believed the United States should sell nuclear arms to Taiwan to intimidate China. Schock said, “If China continues to be irresponsible about nuclear proliferation in Iran, we should tell them that if they do not care about proliferation – and since they are enablers of it in Iran – that if they don’t change their position, we will sell Pershing nuclear missiles to Taiwan for their defense. Non-proliferation will either be enforced universally or not at all – it is their choice,” Schock continued. “The Chinese will come around, I have no doubt.” Schock later backed way from that statement after he was informed that such action was in direct violation of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and that Pershing nuclear missiles had not been manufactured by the United States in over twenty years.
“Our country faces many critical issues both domestic and foreign and now more than ever we need thoughtful and serious leaders in Washington,” said Hirner, “statements like this by Mr. Schock just go prove he’s not up for that job

Blah blah blah blah
And if this were coming from anyone other than his opponent in the upcoming congressional race, it would mean something.
Schocks comments are certainly politically motivated. Gotta keep those wingnuts happy.
