More fallout from Schock’s torture comment

From The Daily Dish by Andrew Sullivan:

At some point, someone close to him needs to pull him aside and say “keep your head down, learn the issues before you go on television and start spewing things that can’t be unsaid.” The fact that he hasn’t even toured the prison in his own district is pathetic.

British subject Andrew Sullivan needs to take his own advice. Thomson prison is not in Schock’s district and indeed is a long distance away.

This is not about Thomson anyway. GITMO is state-of-the-art and safe. Thomson prison is for criminals, not terrorists.

This will be a non-issue because most Republicans agree with Schocks assessment. 2010 is expected to be a big Republican year and following that our country will be facing issues of such magnitude that no one will remember or care about it.

Could the writer be referring to a prison other than Thomson? (such as Jacksonville) That’s the only way the statement would make sense.

Regardless, Thomson is nearly 100 miles from the northernmost point of the 18th Congressional District. There’s at least one prison in IOWA that’s closer to Schock’s district than Thomson.

Billy, do think there is any connection between the torture flap and Schock’s trip to Afghanistan. The timing seems awfully convenient. It would be nice not to answer those pesky reporters questions until this blows over.
