From the Journal Star:
Against a backdrop of unrest in Tibet and protests accompanying the worldwide tour of the Beijing Olympic torch - two issues that have placed China in an unflattering global spotlight this week - the Chinese Ambassador to the United States, Zhou Wenzhong, is visiting Peoria Friday.
But unless you are an employee of [...]

The show starts at 6 p.m. Central Time and can he heard here.
Call in at (347) 326-9459 and join the conversation. Remember, this is a LONG DISTANCE call, so if you are using an old-fashioned land line, you will be charged for each minute you use, unless you have one of those unlimited plans. [...]

Out of curiosity, I went looking for any statements Barack Obama and John McCain might have made regarding the crackdown the communist Chinese government is doing in occupied Tibet.
I found this in an Associated Press article:
McCain did not discuss the issue during a 45-minute meeting with French President Nicolas Sarkozy, but told reporters later the [...]

One of the disadvantages to scheduling shows in advance is that I sometimes find out later that my work schedule has changed. So, I will be working Sunday and won’t be able to broadcast tomorrow’s show about China and Tibet.
I’ll reschedule for a later date.
It’s too bad because there is so much to talk about.

Any word on whether any residents of Benxi — our wonderful sister city — are participating in the oppression of Tibet? Just curious. Maybe we can bring it up next time some of their Communist Party commissars visit Peoria and are honored on the floor of the Peoria City Council?
UPDATE: The subject of Tibet and [...]

In an industry where Yahoo and Google make deals with communist China that help keep people enslaved, its refreshing to see a guy — who has yet to make his first million — say “no” to China.
WordPress could have regained their Chinese market by launching a specialized sister site for China that censored content and [...]

An email tipster (NOT someone from Jim McConoughey’s campaign) reminded me of the following. Back when he was still a member of the Peoria School District 150 board of education AND a member of the state legislature, Schock missed the vote to hire Ken Hinton as superintendent because he was away on a trip to [...]

State Journal Register political reporter Bernie Schoenburg managed to wrangle a quote or two from State Rep. Aaron Schock about his vote in May against requiring five state pension funds to divest from companies doing business with Iran’s energy industry, the profits of which are being used to fund that nation’s research into nuclear weapons.
I [...]

From a press release:
(PEORIA) Representative Aaron Schock responded to opponent Jim McConoughey’s criticism of Schock’s recent comprehensive proposal to seek ways of preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, by pointing out that there are three alternatives:
1. Seek new ways of pressuring China and Russia to heed their UN Security Council responsibilities by voting [...]

Jim McConoughey must have said “naive” and ‘inexperienced” a dozen times during his brief news conference today. Which is pretty must his biggest weapon against Aaron Schock, who was courteous enough to give McConoughey and other opponents John Morris an opening by suggesting that the United States arm Taiwan with nuclear weapons and arm freedom [...]

In today’s column, Springfield Journal-Register columnist Bernie Schoenburg notes that in a recent speech, Aaron Schock advocated giving nuclear weapons to Taiwan. The reason is twofold: It would help the tiny island nation resist aggression from communist mainland China, which considers Taiwan to be part of China; and it would put pressure on China to [...]

A few links:
Jeff Jarvis doesn’t think much of the New York Times downplaying the JFK Airport terrorist plot because it’s only news when the government fails to stop terrorism from happening.
Before and after? No. And I think that’s a miserable thing to suggest about Elisha Cuthbert.
There is a very crude joke I could use to [...]

In the interest of encouraging diversity (and boosting hit counts) I’m trying to make my site more accessible to Spanish speaking (and reading) Peorians. I’ve used Alta Vista’s Bable Fish to generate a link to a translated version of Peoria Pundit. Because I barely speak a work of the language, I need someone to tell [...]
