District 150 Superintendent Ken Hinton once again displayed his lack of respect to taxpayers and parents. In an interview with the Journal Star, he said that, sure, he’s meet with parents who are upset that 45 minutes has been cut from the school day. But he claimed that kids will benefit from all that wonderful [...]

From the Journal Star:
You know, if I had a bullet wound in the gut, I’d be a tad uncooperative, too.
Ken Hinton is in rare form. Bull-headed, condescending … come to think of it, that’s not rare for him at all.
Here’s my big dream: A new board and administrators at District 150. Visualize, visualize, Visualize …

I couldn’t go to last night’s meeting of the group of parents upset at District 50 for slashing a month of instructional time from primary school students (in daily 45-minute increments). I had to work.
In the days since the school board voted to slash the school day, there has been something of an uprising underway. [...]

Kudos to the Journal Star’s Clare Jellick. Once again, she’s used her j-blog to insert leftover material from her notebook into the public discussion, this time to provide some background to Tuesday’s article about Peoria School District 150’s sudden decision to consider locating its new East Bluff school at the site of the now-closed White [...]

Today’s news links via the Journal Star, unless noted:
One of the biggest lessons one learns from school is how to deal with the arbitrary application of power. They kicked kicked her of school because she broke a vaguely defined rule whole value to the educational process cannot be explained. That so many people are fine [...]

There are some ideas on how to restructure Manual High School. Too bad the public won’t hear them.
When you pay a consultant to advise you on what insurance carrier to you, you assume that the consultant isn’t getting money from the insurance carrier they recommend. Hence, Cat’s lawsuit.

After last year’s shooting inside Woodruff High School, the public demanded metal detectors. School Superintendent Ken Hinton responded by:
1. Saying he was seriously considering recommending they be installed.
2. Deciding, after consulting with building principals, not to do so because of cost and time concerns.
3. Never bothering to tell anybody, including certain school board members.
4. [...]

Apparently, some members of the Peoria School Board think so. Superintendent Ken Hinton wants to drop the contract with the company, but he doesn’t have the votes. So he’s taken it off the agenda for the next meeting.
So the district will continue to spend $1.8 million a year on Edison.
School Board President Alicia Butler says: [...]
