Today’s links via the Journal Star:
The Journal Star got around to reporting on the financial disclosure statement filed by 18th District Congressional Candidate Jim McConoughey. That’s good. Better late than never, I say.
I was amused at how the link to the article was displayed on the JS Web site:
Heh. You would think a guy who [...]

I attended the protest outside Peoria Police Department headquarters this morning. Rather than rabble-rousers out to play the race card and demand special treatment for black people, I met and talked to people who sincerely believe that the ‘Manual 22′ case is yet another instance of racial profiling.
Several people I talked to or overheard [...]

UPDATE: The PJS has its article about the press conference up.
I noticed this paragraph in today’s Journal Star article about the “Manual 22″ controversy.
But while District 150 Associate Superintendent Cindy Fischer confirmed Thursday the city had notified the district that tickets would be issued to students heading home down streets instead of available sidewalks, she [...]

Here’s that letter that local NAACP leader Don Jackson is distributing:
In case you haven’t heard, we have a Jena 6 situation right here in River City. We call it the Manual 22, representing 22 Manual students who were recently ticketed by the Peoria Police department for walking along a street with no sidewalks, and [...]

Better late than never, all links are via the Journal Star:
The city says that the park district can build its boondoggle zoo no matter what damage it could do to the park’s historic status.
My two cents: Don’t worry, though. The city will still be telling private homeowners what color paint they can use, though. It’s [...]

Phil Lucinao delivers a well-researched look into the behavior of Peoria Police officer Troy Parker, who got hired by the police despite a drunk drive conviction on his permanent driving record, numerous driving mishaps, a refusal to take an alcohol test following an single-vehicle crash and who finally ended up being indicted after a [...]

They are:
Leon W. Fivecoat, 50, of North Prospect Road, in Peoria. He was busted Friday at the corner of Madison and Hancock.
Darrin D. Morgan, 24, of North Orchard in Mackinaw, was busted Friday in the 1100 block of Northeast Madison.
Their smiling faces can be seen here.

The “God Hates Fags” people have the right to protest at the funeral of a real war hero from East Peoria, but Peoria neighborhood activists are being investigated for disorderly conduct and criminal trespass to property because they are putting around flyers from door to door.
Amazing.
There can be legitimate debate over the value of [...]

I’m sure the courts will, eventually, have something to say about Peoria’s decision to fire a police officer just because there’s evidence he is friends with an accused drug dealer:
Police first learned of the friendship in February, when Peoria vice and narcotics officers served a search warrant at [Scott] Pierce’s apartment in the 2600 block [...]

Heh.
They are called Peoria Crack House and Shame on Peoria. The goal of these two anonymous Blog*Spot sites is to shame the owners of homes where drug dealing is going on, and do the same to the owners of run-down properties.
Names and addresses are included.
I have NOTHING to do with either one. Trust me. But [...]

Peoria County State’s Attorney Kevin Lyons has been accused — and not just by me — of not vigorously prosecuting the people arrested by the police during prostitute solicitation stings. It’s one of the reasons given by those who support the Peoria Police Department’s prostitution arrest Web page. Lyons isn’t quoted directly in this [...]
