Local: A few random observations …

A few thoughts:

Why would someone I’m talking to on the phone, has no idea who I am or what I look like, say “thanks, big guy” at the end of our conservation? I don’t SOUND fat, do I? Maybe he was being ironic.
The Bloomington Pantagraph interviewed folks from both the Aaron Schock/Colleen Callahan campaigns comparing [...]

Politics: Real author of Paul newsletters revealed

Feh. This report from Reason magazine does nothing to dissuade me from turning away from libertarian-leaning presidential candidate Ron Paul. Its apparent that Lew Rockwell is the person who likely penned those racist newsletters that carried Paul’s name:
Financial records from 1985 and 2001 show that Rockwell, Paul’s congressional chief of staff from 1978 to 1982, [...]

Politics: A message to Ron Paul supporters

Try to see past Ron Paul’s message of the day. Yes, he’s anti war. Yes, he’s anti tax. Yes, he’s (nominally) for the rights of the individual.
But look into his background. And look into the background of his most ardent, long-time supporters. You will see a history of racism, homophobia and paranoia.
I’ve written about Paul’s [...]

Politics: Is Ron Paul a racist?

Libertarians, nominally at least, believe in equality and individual liberty. They believe every individual should be treated an an individual, and not lumped into a class and judged on that basis. But the fact is that there are quite a few people calling themselves Libertarians who are use the sort of verbiage that appeared in [...]

Politics: And thus, my flirtation with Ron Paul comes to an end

Yeah, I know. He’s the most libertarian-minded candidate out there. Unfortunately, as much as I like his stands on so many other issues, he’s one of those libertarians: The sort who believe the Confederate States of America was right, that Abraham Lincoln was some sort of monster and tyrant. This [...]

Politics: ‘You worker bees are bleeping stupid, you know that?’

Ron Paul Girl explains life under President Hillary Clinton. Well, it’s a somewhat gross overstatement. Somewhat.

Yes, I am on a Ron Paul kick these days. I’m also on a Ron Paul Girl kick, which is, I suppose, more understandable.

Politics: Ron Paul’s throwing a tea party, and the mainstream pols do NOT want to attend

I have to hand it to Ron Paul supporters. They are making the BEST videos.
Meanwhile, Nic Rivera at The Moderate Voice observes that Paul’s campaign isn’t popular among some traditional libertarians and neo-conservatives:
While some may question whether Ron Paul might be bad for libertarianism, his growing popularity and name [...]

Politics: Ron Paul might not make it on the ballot in Illinois

I signed up for email updates from many of the presidential campaigns, including Ron Paul’s. This one landed in my inbox today. It does not make me feel hopeful for the libertarian-leaning Republican.
November 11, 2007
If we don’t get hundreds upon hundreds of signatures immediately in Illinois Ron Paul will have no delegates to send [...]

Politics: ‘The increasingly remarkable rise of Congressman Ron Paul’

Heh.
Tucker Carlson called the the campaign “formerly quixotic.” I suppose that when you raise $4.2 million in nearly 24 hours in an Internet-only campaign, they media has to pretend, at least for a little bit, that it takes your campaign seriously. But they are only hedging their bets. None of [...]
