Here are some links to keep readers amused over the weekend.
First, there’s an interesting thread going on at Peoria.com titled ‘What is the REAL purpose of a blog?‘ The poster in question claims to be a classmate of mine from Woodruff High School, but it remaining anonymous for now. There’s been some thoughtful give and [...]

News links via the Journal Star:
Aaron Schock officially announced yesterday. As far as I know, he’s the only candidate to come out in favor of expanding the use of nuclear power, which is something I strongly support.
Doug Finke says that Gov. Blagojevich wants to send the entire state a bill so Blago’s Chicago neighborhood can [...]

I came away from tonight’s District 150 School Board meeting feeling better about the possibility that they will eventually decide to built two new schools to replace the three Woodruff High School feeder schools they plan to close.
The board meet as a committee of the whole today, a less former event that an official meeting, [...]

The last time I attended a meeting of the Peoria School District 150 Board of Education I attended was waaaaaaay back during my Journal Star internship. So, it’s been at least 20 years.
I’m going to tonight’s meeting of the committee of the whole, which is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. at the district office [...]

If this “GateHouse News Service” report on how Insight Cable is going to carry some Bradley University basketball games is anything other than a press release, I’ll eat my fictional season tickets. What? No one was available in the JS newsroom to make a phone call for [...]

District 150 started the first of four public hearings on the site of a new Woodruff High School feeder school insisting that there absolutely will not consider building two schools to replace the total of four they have or will close. But all the heard was plea after plea from the neighborhoods to not move [...]

After last year’s shooting inside Woodruff High School, the public demanded metal detectors. School Superintendent Ken Hinton responded by:
1. Saying he was seriously considering recommending they be installed.
2. Deciding, after consulting with building principals, not to do so because of cost and time concerns.
3. Never bothering to tell anybody, including certain school board members.
4. [...]

The Northsiders pummeled the Streator Bulldogs 28-0 at Peoria Stadium yesterday. I’d link to Wes Huett’s article in the Journal Star, but no one bothered to post it. As a matter of fact, not one single Peoria-based news organization bothered to post this score on their Web sites.
Nah, what does it matter. It’s not like [...]

Peoria native and Woodruff High School alum Tami Lane is in town for a few days.
Let us hope someone in City Hall is in contact with her to arrange for her to receive a proclamation at Tuesday’s City Council meeting … and give her a chance to wave that gold-plated statue around before the cameras.
tami [...]

Woodruff High School grad Tami Lane won her Oscar last night.
Linda [Lane, Tami'smother] sank onto the couch. “She’s just from little Peoria,” she said. “In the little old Midwest, and Woodruff High School and here she is on the Oscar stage.”
Tami’s relatives and old friends milled around the room under garlands of silver tinsel and [...]

The drug-dealing punk who fired a gun inside Woodruff High School last year got his worthless ass sentenced to 25 years in prison. Of course, his family was besides themselved with grief.
His aunt testified during the hearing that she thought Alexander was a good boy who never had any problems. Shooting at someone, she said, [...]

I don’t remember Sgt. First Class Eric Pearrow. But the 40-year-old man was a freshman at Woodruff High School when I was a senior.
I wish I did.
Pearrow died in Iraq on Thanksgiving Day in a single vehicle accident involving a M1 Abrams tank. Pearrow was a member of the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment Thunder Squadron, [...]
